Our friend "Smiling Jane" takes us into the community to learn about Chinese culture and everyday life. Jane runs a community group called "English Corner" in Hill Park every Friday for Chinese to practice speaking English together. We have made many friends at these events. People sing, tell jokes and stories and have fun for a few hours out of the busy Chinese work day.
Jane's mother knows how to make the traditional good luck tiger baby shoes. She has generously offered to teach me how to make them and gave me the pair pictured here. At the time I did not know I was already a GRANDMA TO BE!!! Yes, our son Jesse and his wife Silvia will have a baby in April! I hope to make a hundred baby shoes and other baby things before then!
